In a shocking and unsettling move, the "woke cult" has infiltrated the medical field, replacing the Hippocratic Oath with an alternative political statement. At the U.M., incoming students were forced to sign a pledge that stated they would "honor all forms of Indigenous healing," and they were also coerced into fighting against colonialism and white supremacy.
Critical race theory critic Christopher Rufo criticized the woke pledge, saying that the doctors reading it likely didn't believe in what was said. But, since almost half of medical schools in the country have adopted this pledge, it has raised concerns about the politicalization of medicine.
In 2022, Robert Englander, who is the associate dean of the medical school at the University of Minnesota, wrote a new version of the medical oath. He claimed that the school was relocated to Dakota land, and he promised to address the issue of structural violence within the healthcare system. The new oath also vowed to honor the various Indigenous healing methods that have been marginalized by Western medicine.
The hypocrisy of the woke oath is apparent. While denouncing colonialism and white supremacy, Englander did not call for the return of the Dakota tribe's land. The pledge also calls for reducing hospital energy usage, which could affect patients' well-being. In addition, it raises the issue of whether doctors should collaborate with communities that are skeptical of vaccines.
The medical oath is not only harmful to the profession, it also undermines the quality of care that doctors provide. They should be focused on treating all patients with the utmost care, regardless of their cultural or racial backgrounds. The politicization in medicine must stop before it can do more harm.
