17 Republican Senators join Democrats to approve reckless unlimited spending billl

Late Thursday night, the Senate passed legislation to raise the debt ceiling, which is essentially a license for unlimited spending by the federal government. Shockingly, 17 Republicans joined 46 Democrats in supporting this reckless measure, paving the way for endless and unsustainable government spending.

This legislation will suspend the debt ceiling until Jan. 2025, allowing the federal government to avoid defaulting on its debt. Although five Democrats showed some restraint and broke with their party, these 17 Republicans have enabled this massive government expansion.

Some of the turncoat Republicans include Arkansas Sen. John Boozman, who apparently thinks it’s a good idea for the government to spend whatever it wants; Kentucky Sen. Mitch McConnell, who has apparently forgotten his conservative principles and values; and Utah Sen. Mitt Romney, who may have taken too many liberal pills while campaigning for president.

While some Republicans tried to justify their vote by claiming it will reduce federal spending by $1.5 trillion over the next decade, this is just smoke and mirrors. This legislation does nothing to curb the uncontrolled government spending that has plagued our nation for far too long.

On the bright side, some Republicans did stand up for fiscal responsibility and the future of our country. Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley recognized the danger of this bill and voted against it, stating that the real deficit we face is the trade deficit with China. And Texas Sen. Ted Cruz is also standing on principle, refusing to support a measure that adds to our debt in exchange for paltry spending cuts.

In the end, it’s clear that these 17 Republicans made a terrible mistake. They have abandoned their conservative values and betrayed the trust of their constituents. It’s time for these politicians to remember who they are supposed to be fighting for – the American people, not the bloated and wasteful government.
