In a recent Cygnal poll, it was discovered that Republicans are still wrestling with the messy issue of abortion. Ever since the Supreme Court overturned Roe v. Wade in the Dobbs v. Jackson decision, Republicans have been divided on how much involvement the federal government should have. On the other hand, Democrats are united in their fervent support for abortion up until birth for any reason without any legal limits – but only when it comes to those in elected office.
One of the key takeaways from the poll is that a whopping 70 percent of registered voters believe that some form of abortion restrictions should be in place. Now, this shows that the majority of Americans understand the importance of protecting the innocent lives of the unborn. Republicans, in particular, have been pushing for a gestational limit on abortions after 15 weeks, which is a crucial point in the pregnancy where unborn children can feel pain and the procedure becomes even riskier for women.
But let’s not forget the extreme position of the Democrats. A staggering 30 percent of Democrats actually support abortion up until birth. Yes, you heard that right – they think it’s perfectly acceptable to terminate a pregnancy at any stage, even moments before delivery. It’s no wonder the Democratic Party is considered more extreme by a plurality of respondents, with 44.9 percent believing so. Only 24 percent of Republicans think the same about their own party. Clearly, the Democrats are out of touch with mainstream America.
It’s essential that Republicans communicate the extremism of the Democratic Party when it comes to abortion. The media narrative often portrays Republicans who pass heartbeat laws as the extremists, but in reality, their position is closer to the common ground. More than 70 percent of voters want some restrictions on abortion, yet the Democrats continue to push for legislation like the Women’s Health Protection Act, which would expand the Roe decision and invalidate state pro-life laws. It’s time the American people see the true colors of the Democrats on this issue.
Interestingly, Republican voters are inclined to support former President Donald Trump in a hypothetical matchup against President Joe Biden. While Biden leads by a narrow margin, Trump has a stronger appeal among Independent voters. This goes to show that Trump is still the Republican Party’s best chance at winning against Biden. When pitted against an unnamed Republican candidate, Biden’s lead widens, indicating that Trump’s unique appeal is a force to be reckoned with.
Overall, the Cygnal poll’s findings reaffirm the importance of pro-life values among the American people. It’s clear that the majority want abortion to be limited, and they are rightfully concerned about Biden’s radical pro-abortion agenda. The Republican Party must continue to champion the cause of life and expose the extreme views of the Democrats. America deserves leaders who prioritize the protection of the most vulnerable among us.
