Democratic Representative Rashida Tlaib of Michigan has once again shown her true colors by accusing Republican House Speaker Kevin McCarthy of trying to erase the experiences of Palestinians after he tried to cancel an event criticizing the 75th anniversary of Israel’s independence. The event titled “Nakba 75 and the Palestinian People”, that was set to take place in the House of Representatives side of the U.S. Capitol, marked “75 years since the beginning of the Nakba, which means ‘catastrophe’” and aimed to “educate” Congress on how the “Zionist militias and the new Israeli military violently expelled approximately three-quarters of all Palestinians” to create the nation of Israel in May 1948, according to the event page. Fortunately, McCarthy reserved the event space for his own event to “support Israel’s right to self-determination and self-defense.”

Not one to back down, Tlaib responded via Twitter by accusing McCarthy of trying to hide the stories of Palestinians’ stories of “trauma” and “violence” from Israel. However, this isn’t surprising coming from Tlaib, who has consistently demonstrated her anti-Israel stance and her support of antisemitic comments. It’s almost as if she thinks it’s perfectly acceptable to praise terrorists who have targeted Israel for years.
He was 8 years old when the Nakba began. He told his story of trauma, violence & the ongoing pain.
Experiences like his are what McCarthy and others tried to erase, but we didn’t let that happen. His smile and ability to share his story made it all worth it. pic.twitter.com/viCyJqCzPf

Happening right now: an educational event about the 75th anniversary of the Nabka: standing room only at Dirksen Senate Office Building. Thanks to Nabka survivors, all the organizers, and members of Congress for making this event happen. pic.twitter.com/wc7SUj0TGk

The fact is that Tlaib and her ilk will stop at nothing to demonize Israel and ignore the plight of Jews around the world, especially in the Middle East. It is also noteworthy to mention that Tlaib’s event was sponsored by multiple groups that have a history of encouraging and pushing anti-Israel beliefs, such as the Institute for Middle East Understanding, Americans for Justice in Palestine Action, Democracy for the Arab World Now, and U.S. Campaign for Palestinian Rights, all of whom have promoted the idea that Israel is an apartheid state and commits human rights abuses and war crimes against Palestinians.
We should not be surprised at the blatant bias against Israel displayed at this event. After all, this is the same person who claimed that the Holocaust gives her a “calming feeling” and that her Palestinian ancestors “lost their land and property” due to Jewish immigrants in the early 1900s.
It’s time that we stand up against this rampant anti-Israel sentiment and hold individuals like Tlaib accountable for their outrageous and baseless accusations. The real tragedy here is not the so-called “Nakba,” but rather the fact that Palestinian leadership has consistently refused to negotiate in good faith with Israel, ultimately leaving their own people to suffer.
