Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, a New York representative, has once again shown that her penchant for making irrational and inappropriate statements can no longer be ignored.
On social media, the socialist representative was criticized for comparing the actions of women in Iran to those of Americans who are protesting for abortion-on-demand.
In response to the murder of Iranian journalist Mahsa Amini, who was allegedly killed by the same forces that are oppressing women all around the world, the young representative of New York City expressed her solidarity with the women in Iran.
Her tone-deaf comment came after massive protests were held in Iran, which were sparked by the country's morality police. The police are enforcing hijabs.
According to Fox News, Amini was arrested by Iran's morality police for violating the country's strict dress code. The code requires women to cover their heads when they are out.
She reportedly died after she was beaten following her arrest. Her death has sparked mass protests against the Islamic Republic. Some women in Iran also burned their hijabs in solidarity with the protesters.
This is what a fight for freedom should look like. Instead of using the platform of the Democratic Party to push for an election year agenda, it should be about fighting for the rights of the people of Iran. To be fair, Amini isn't George Floyd. Instead of appropriating Iran for your feminist agenda, you should stop focusing on the country's national struggle.
