Instead of becoming a headline, Routh quickly became a catchy punchline as he dropped his gear and fled, leaving behind a scoped AK-style rifle and a GoPro—a detail that probably has some media outlets quaking in their boots.

But in the grand tradition of leftist media, CNN spun the story from a thrilling bit of attempted violence to a grief-stricken lamentation about how this incident might catapult Trump back into the White House. Their analysts can hardly contain their dismay. Forget that a former president, one who has already survived a previous assassination attempt, is the target here; the real concern for CNN and its commentators is whether this will rally voters to Trump’s side—a scenario they find exceptionally unfortunate. Juliette Kayyem, one of their national security gurus, even fretted on-air about the potential for this latest attempt to impact voters. Between eye rolls and disbelief, one might wonder if the folks at CNN need a break from their own melodrama.
In yet another twist, CNN’s agonizing over how this assassination attempt could play out during election season prompts a larger question: What exactly is it that drives someone to this lengths of political violence? While the media would like to pin this upheaval solely on the right, it’s worth examining the context in which these events occur. After all, the loudest voices on the left are often calling for more aggressive tactics against political opponents. The irony isn’t lost on anyone paying attention; the very people touting the need for discourse are the same ones pushing rhetoric that encourages violence. What’s more troubling is that this behavior is masked under the guise of “returning to normalcy,” while it’s their side that’s freaking out like a caffeinated cat on a hot tin roof.
Liberals are in denial—and clearly, some of them might be gaslighting themselves. It’s almost comical to witness the cognitive dissonance on display. Despite obvious evidence pointing to a concerning trend of leftist violence, their narrative remains unwavering. They want to pretend that voting Democrat is the escape hatch from societal chaos, yet they ignore the reality that it is their party which is increasingly prone to resorting to intimidation and aggression. The self-awareness level is practically non-existent among these lefties, and their attempts to pin this violence on conservatives are as transparent as a glass house in a hurricane.
CNN did stumble across a moment of clarity, albeit briefly, as former FBI agent Tim Clemente noted the surreal nature of political violence in today’s society. His words highlight just how far we’ve traveled from rational political discourse to a landscape riddled with threats and intimidation. But don’t count on CNN to keep the focus on that; it’s much easier for them to chase cat memes and conspiracy theories. As the political cacophony continues, the left is bound to misattribute the rising tide of political violence to anything except their own incendiary rhetoric. Keep your popcorn ready, because the circus is only getting started.
