According to exclusive reports from Axios, Democratic party leaders and close friends of Joe Biden are pressuring him to exit the presidential race as soon as this weekend. While Biden continues to put on a brave face publicly, it seems behind closed doors he is accepting the reality that mounting pressure, plummeting poll numbers, and unrelenting scrutiny have made it impossible for him to continue his campaign.
So why are Democratic leaders so eager for Biden to step aside? Simple. They believe that if he stays in, former President Trump could secure a landslide victory and completely dismantle Biden’s legacy, as well as any hopes for Democrats in November. And let’s be honest, they’re not wrong.

It’s interesting to see how far the Democrats have come from their resignation back in February, when the Wall Street Journal’s Peggy Noonan wrote about their acceptance of Biden’s impending loss. But now, they’re all in on Biden, whether they truly believe in his ability to win or not.
One of the main concerns that Democrats have about Biden is his lackluster approval rating, which stands at just 39%. Meanwhile, Trump continues to lead in the polls. It’s not just a matter of Biden’s occasional lapses or slow demeanor; it’s his inability to effectively communicate on important issues like Ukraine, Israel, and illegal immigration. This leaves the White House in a state of confusion, lacking a strong and coherent voice to represent the administration. It’s no wonder people are feeling uneasy about the state of affairs.
But the real reason Democrats are pushing for Biden’s exit is because they fear the negative impact he could have on other Democrats running for office. This is not an isolated concern; it has been reported that 52 prominent Democrats are urging Biden to drop out. Even Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer and former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi have privately expressed their desire for Biden to step aside, citing fears of losing winnable seats and drying up donations.
Former President Obama has also made his position clear through his silence, while his former aides have been publicly trashing Biden. And let’s not forget about the Clintons, who are following Obama’s lead.
It’s clear that the momentum is building for Biden to bow out of the race. His disastrous debate performance and subsequent interviews certainly didn’t help his cause, and a leaked Zoom call with Democrats further raised questions about his mental faculties. Additionally, megadonor Jeffrey Katzenberg has warned Biden that donor patience is running thin, and it’s only a matter of time before they close their checkbooks.
With all these factors at play, it’s hard to ignore the possibility of Biden dropping out. The political landscape has shifted dramatically in just one week, with Trump displaying resilience and strength in the face of an assassination attempt. The Republican National Convention has also been successful in energizing the party and instilling a sense of confidence. When seasoned journalists like Jim VandeHei and Mike Allen attach their names to a story predicting Biden’s withdrawal, it’s hard not to take it seriously.
At this point, it’s anyone’s guess what the future holds for Biden’s campaign. But one thing is clear: his chances of securing the presidency are growing increasingly slim. Whether he heeds the calls to step aside or stubbornly insists on continuing, it’s becoming evident that Biden will struggle to keep pace with an energized and determined Republican Party.
