Biden Ignored Dissent Cable, Afghanistan Chaos Foreseen

Congress has finally been allowed to review a “dissent cable” from the State Department that shows damning evidence of the Biden administration’s complete disregard for the situation in Afghanistan ahead of their chaotic withdrawal of U.S. forces from the nation. According to Rep. Darrell Issa, the document is “embarrassing” for the Biden administration and contradicts the administration’s narrative that nobody could have predicted the chaos that unfolded.

The “dissent cable” sent on July 13, 2021, was signed by 23 diplomats and staffers in Afghanistan who warned that the Taliban would retake control of the country, and urged immediate action to evacuate U.S. personnel and Afghan allies – a warning that was downplayed or ignored by the Biden administration.

Rep. Issa revealed that the document showed “there was no expectation by the State Department that there would be sustainability” of any progress made in the region and that the Taliban would inevitably seize billions of dollars of U.S. equipment and weapons, an outcome which came true when the Taliban launched a sweeping offensive that retook control of Afghanistan, including the capital of Kabul, in a matter of weeks as the Afghan National Army quickly folded.

The dissenting officials’ warnings to the Department’s leadership were ignored, and the Biden administration “allowed it to happen.” Rep. Issa went on to say that the document should be declassified, stating that “there’s absolutely no reason the American people shouldn’t see it, and I will not rest until they do.”

In this writer’s opinion, this shows yet again that the Biden administration has failed America, and their hasty and poorly planned withdrawal from Afghanistan was a complete disaster. The lack of care for American citizens and allies left behind has caused dire consequences, and the responsibility lies in the hands of the Biden administration. It is time for accountability and transparency, and the American people deserve answers.
