In a recent appearance on NBC’s “Late Night with Seth Meyers,” President Joe Biden dismissively waved away concerns about his age, quipping to voters, “take a look at the other guy.” The “other guy” being none other than his likely opponent in the upcoming general election, former President Donald Trump. At 81 years old, Biden brushed off worries about his age, pointing out that Trump is only four years younger than him. He went on to say, “It’s about how old your ideas are,” taking a not-so-subtle dig at Trump’s policies, which he claimed belonged in the past.
Biden’s appearance on the late-night show comes at a crucial time, just before Michigan voters head to the polls for the state’s Democratic primary. However, Biden is facing a potential roadblock in Michigan, with a protest vote gaining momentum over his handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict. Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI), among other Democratic leaders in the state, has thrown their support behind the Listen to Michigan campaign, urging voters to mark themselves as “uncommitted” instead of casting their votes for Biden. This protest vote could seriously jeopardize Biden’s chances in a state that has historically proven to be a game-changer in presidential elections.

The president’s attempts to address the conflict during the late-night show included expressing hopes for a ceasefire and emphasizing the need for the release of hostages held by Hamas.
Underlying his efforts to navigate these obstacles, Biden’s recent troubles found footing earlier this month with Special Counsel Robert Hur’s report, which raised questions about the president’s handling of classified documents and his mental acuity. These issues have given his opponents ample ammunition as he braces for what promises to be a fierce battle in the upcoming election.
