It looks like President Joe Biden is hitting the panic button, desperately calling his top Democrat buddies after that disastrous debate performance. It’s like watching a sinking ship and Biden’s crew scurrying around to keep it afloat. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer got a Biden wake-up call, along with House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Sen. Chris Coons. Nothing screams confidence like rallying the troops after a public flop.
Then there’s the “long conversation” Biden had with Rep. Jim Clyburn, a key player in the Biden-Harris campaign. Whatever they talked about is staying hush-hush, but it’s pretty obvious they’re scrambling for damage control. It’s no secret top Democrats haven’t heard a peep from Biden since facing off against Trump. The wake-up call probably should have come before the debate, but better late than never, right?

Campaign co-chair Chris Coons is trying to steer Biden towards town halls and media stints to undo the damage. This is straight from the guy who watched Biden’s debate trainwreck of disjointed answers and confused expressions unfold. Even Nancy Pelosi, who hadn’t heard from Biden since the debacle, is nudging him to do more “serious” interviews. Funny how she’s pushing for multiple hard-hitting interviews now. It’s almost like they’re trying to throw him a lifeline.
House Democrats are coming out in force, airing their grievances about Biden’s performance. Some are even pushing him to bow out of the 2024 race, while others are ready to back Kamala Harris if she steps up. There’s even talk of a letter circulating among Democrats encouraging Biden to withdraw. Up to 25 House Democrats are gearing up to ask Biden to step aside, but it’s unclear if this is part of the letter movement or just more panic.
Meanwhile, Biden is doubling down, insisting he’s not going anywhere. White House chief of staff Jeff Zients is telling staff to ignore the chatter about the floundering campaign. Biden’s claiming he’s in the race until the end and confident they’re going to win. All this while planning a press conference and an interview with ABC’s George Stephanopoulos, plus calls with Democratic governors. If the last-minute PR blitz isn’t a sign of a campaign in crisis, what is?
White House press secretary Karine Jean-Pierre is doing her best to paint a rosy picture, claiming Biden has been “out there” engaging with people. Sure, because nothing says “engaging” like scrambling to salvage a campaign after a public relations nightmare. Buckle up, folks, because this political circus has only just begun.
