Biden Team Dodges Trump Debate as Concerns Over Fitness Surge

Former President Donald Trump has been adamant that he wants to debate President Joe Biden ahead of the 2024 presidential election. However, the Biden administration seems hesitant to engage in such a debate. During a White House briefing, Press Secretary Karine Jean-Pierre was asked about the matter. While Jean-Pierre couldn’t provide much information due to it being election-related, she made it clear that the circumstances in 2020 were different and implied that Biden’s debate with Trump during that time was under different circumstances.

It is true that the political landscape has shifted since 2020. Biden, who was perceived differently at that time, is now facing concerns about his age, mental fitness, and ability to serve a second term. Additionally, Biden has been known to rely on false narratives, such as the “fine people” hoax, which has been fact-checked and debunked multiple times. Furthermore, Biden’s verbal and physical stumbles in public appearances raise doubts about his readiness for a debate.

In response to the debate issue, David Frum, a writer for The Atlantic, expressed his opposition to a potential debate between Biden and Trump. Frum argued that a candidate under criminal indictment should not be engaging in joint appearances, likening Biden to President Abraham Lincoln and Trump to Jefferson Davis, the president of the Confederacy.

Frum’s stance reflects a growing sentiment among some that the political climate is too charged for a debate between Biden and Trump. These concerns highlight the deep divides within the country and the complexities surrounding a potential presidential debate.
