Biden to Sign National Security Bill, Bolster Aid to Allies

President Joe Biden announced that he will sign a significant National Security package bill on Wednesday. This bill, passed with a bipartisan majority in the Senate, includes $95 billion in aid to Taiwan, Israel, Ukraine, and U.S. allies in the Indo-Pacific region. The Senate approved the bill with a vote of 79-18 on Tuesday night.

In a press release, Biden stated, “Congress has passed my legislation to strengthen our national security and send a message to the world about the power of American leadership: we stand resolutely for democracy and freedom, and against tyranny and oppression.” He emphasized the urgency of providing aid, especially for Ukraine and Israel, given the ongoing conflicts they face.

Biden’s support for this bill has been steadfast, describing it as a "critical piece of legislation" that will make the world more secure. Senator Patty Murray (D-WA), Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee, echoed these sentiments, emphasizing that the bill will send a message to both allies and adversaries about the United States' commitment to democracy and freedom.

The aid is intended to support Ukraine in its conflict with Russia, Israel in its defense against Iran-related threats, and other regions affected by conflict and natural disasters, such as Gaza, Sudan, and Haiti. Biden plans to address the American people after signing the bill to explain its significance and outline how it will strengthen national security.
