President Joe Biden’s disastrous border policies have plunged America into the worst border crisis in its history, resulting in a surge of human trafficking and the influx of deadly drugs like fentanyl into our country. It’s clear that since taking office, Biden has done everything in his power to reopen the southern border and put American lives at risk by allowing illegal aliens to freely enter our nation.
The staggering numbers speak for themselves. In 2022 alone, there have been record encounters at the U.S.-Mexico border, with over 152,000 unaccompanied minors being encountered by immigration authorities. This is an all-time high and a damning result of Biden’s failed border policies. To make matters worse, in May 2021, there were over 180,000 illegal migrants encountered, marking the highest monthly total in over two decades. It’s as if our borders have become wide open gates inviting anyone to enter without consequence.
But perhaps the most shocking aspect of this crisis is the rampant human trafficking that is taking place right under Biden’s nose. Tim Ballard, the creator of the powerful film “Sound of Freedom,” appeared before the Homeland Security Committee and revealed the horrifying reality at our border. He recounted stories of children being sold up to 20 times a day, six days a week, for years on end. It’s like a nightmare that never ends.
And it’s not just children who are suffering. Ballard shared the story of a woman who was brought across the border to an area without barriers or protections and was then sold and raped for money an astonishing 40 times a day for five years. This is the reality that Biden’s policies have allowed to flourish, turning our border into a haven for criminals and human rights abusers. It’s unconscionable.
Equally disturbing is the fact that the Biden Administration has lost track of a staggering 85,000 missing unaccompanied children. This is not just a failure of leadership, it’s a betrayal of the most vulnerable among us. And yet, Biden has the audacity to claim that it’s not the government’s problem. Well, Mr. President, I think it’s safe to say that it most certainly is the government’s problem, and it’s a problem that needs immediate attention and action.
One of the key reasons for this crisis is Biden’s decision to stop taking fingerprints and conducting thorough background checks of adults who care for these children. This was done under the guise of easing fears among illegal migrant adults already in the U.S., but the consequences have been dire. Thousands of children have gone missing, their fates unknown. This is a direct result of Biden’s misguided policies and inability to prioritize the safety and well-being of American children.
It’s time for the Department of Homeland Security and Border Patrol agents to step up and tirelessly work to find these missing children. We cannot turn a blind eye to their suffering any longer. And while Tim Ballard has left Operation Underground Railroad to join the fight against trafficking with the SPEAR Fund, it’s clear that there is still so much work to be done. Children who cross the border alone are being forced into prostitution and forced labor, according to The New York Times. This is a horrifying reality that we cannot ignore.
In the end, it all comes down to real freedom. And real freedom is not a phone number in the pocket of a child for an unknown sponsor or a treacherous journey through South and Central America. Real freedom is safety and protection from abuse and abusers for our most vulnerable population – our children, our future. It’s time for Biden to take responsibility for his failed policies and put an end to this heartbreaking crisis. The safety and well-being of our children depend on it.
