Tragic stories like the one involving 22-year-old Laken Hope Riley are becoming all too common in America, and they are a direct result of the federal government’s utter failure to enforce immigration laws. Riley, a promising nursing student at Augusta University, was brutally murdered while out for a jog by Jose Antonio Ibarra, an illegal alien from Venezuela. Ibarra, who should have been deported back in 2023 after being arrested for injuring a child, was instead released into the U.S. thanks to the Biden administration’s disastrous Catch and Release policy.
This heart-wrenching tragedy echoes similar cases like that of Mollie Tibbetts, a young student who was kidnapped and killed by an illegal alien from Mexico while out for a jog in 2018. Kayla Hamilton, just 20 years old, met a similarly tragic end at the hands of an illegal MS-13 gang member, who was released into the U.S. despite his criminal background and gang ties. And who could forget Kate Steinle, senselessly gunned down by a repeat felon who had been deported multiple times but was allowed to roam freely in a sanctuary city?

The stories of these young women should serve as a wake-up call to all Americans about the dangers of lax immigration enforcement and the devastating consequences it can have. It’s time for the government to prioritize the safety and security of American citizens over the interests of illegal immigrants. The lives of Laken Riley, Mollie Tibbetts, Kayla Hamilton, Kate Steinle, and countless others deserve nothing less.
