Biden’s latest photo op at the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro comes with a side of mishaps that could make even a seasoned comedian cringe. The President of the United States finally made it onto the scenic stage flanked by Justin Trudeau and Narendra Modi after a dramatic absence left everyone wondering if he had wandered off during a coffee break. Missing from the previous day’s “family photo” that included top world leaders, Biden’s failure to show raised eyebrows so high that one might think they were trying to spot a UFO.
A U.S. official, presumably someone adept at spinning tales, attributed Biden’s tardiness to “logistical challenges.” In layman’s terms, this means that the photo session was indeed moving along faster than Biden’s aging legs could manage. One can only imagine the muted chuckles behind the press pens, where journalists mimicked the reactions of children witnessing their parent’s latest cringe moment. It’s safe to say that America’s standing on the world stage has never been in such question.
Despite missing the initial CNN-worthy moment, Biden did manage to share a more staged photo with Trudeau and Giorgia Meloni, announcing on social media that it was simply “great” to meet these fine leaders. It seems the President’s attempts to portray a vibrant alliance bore the unmistakable signs of a manufactured pep rally rather than an earnest meeting of minds. Sure, he’s trying to “make the world a better, safer place,” but one has to wonder if he could even find his way to the right event without digital GPS assistance.
In what could only be described as a comedic subplot, footage of Biden disappearing into the depths of the Amazon Rainforest went viral. While one might speculate he was on a panic quest for the latest climate change policy, social media was flooded with jokes and memes about Biden getting lost in the woods. While America grapples with lost respect on the international scene, there’s an undeniable chuckle to be had at the visual of the world’s most powerful leader potentially auditioning for a survival reality show. Political savvy isn’t his strong suit, but comic relief? Now that might just be Biden’s true calling.
