President Joe Biden’s approval rating is in freefall, with even members of his own party expressing their dissatisfaction. The latest Gallup poll indicates that Democratic approval for Biden’s job has plummeted by 11 points over the past month, reaching an all-time low of 75%. While Republicans have never been fond of Biden, with their approval rating remaining in the single digits for years, even independents are losing faith, with a 4-point drop to 35%.
This decline in support comes as Biden has shown unwavering backing for Israel following the surprise attack by Hamas terrorists. The poll was taken just days after armed Hamas terrorists breached a border fence and launched a deadly assault on Israel, resulting in the deaths of 1,400 people and the capture of over 200 civilians and soldiers. Biden received praise from Democratic lawmakers for his initial response, including a visit to Israel and a push for $14 billion in funding for military and humanitarian aid.
However, some factions within the Democratic Party have criticized Biden for not doing enough to aid Palestinian civilians who have been trapped in Gaza during the conflict. As the death toll rises and reports emerge of the dire conditions faced by Palestinians, there is growing pressure on the president to call for a temporary ceasefire. But Biden is unlikely to take such action unless there are promising negotiations for the release of the hostages seized by Hamas.

It’s clear that Biden’s handling of the Israel-Hamas conflict is alienating members of his own party, particularly younger individuals who are less supportive of Israel compared to previous generations. With 48% of Generation Z and millennial Democrats believing the United States should publicly support Israel in the war, compared to higher numbers for older generations, it’s evident that Biden’s stance is not resonating with the party’s future. If he doesn’t address these concerns and find a balance between supporting Israel and advocating for Palestinian civilians, his approval rating could continue its downward spiral.
