His response didn’t pull any punches, emphasizing the importance of an independent judiciary while hinting at the folly of politicizing one of the most revered institutions in the country.
When asked about the implications of potential changes, including term limits and newly enforced ethics codes, Gorsuch cleverly sidestepped the question. His reasoning was both straightforward and profound: turning the high court into a political football during a presidential election year isn’t just unwise; it’s downright dangerous. The independence of the judiciary is what protects Americans when they’re feeling unpopular or targeted, and for the left to tinker with that is not just reckless—it’s a blatant power grab.

Biden’s recent proposal for reforms, which includes term limits for justices and accountability measures that would reduce them to the whims of political correctness, is a brazen attempt to control the court. Vice President Kamala Harris played her part as the faithful sidekick, echoing the President’s claims of a “crisis of confidence” in the Supreme Court while conveniently forgetting the numerous instances of blatant hypocrisy emanating from the left. The assertion that Justice decisions are steeped in scandal is questionable at best, yet this is what the Biden-Harris duo wants the American public to believe.
The term limits proposal is particularly amusing when one considers the track record of the left’s champions in the court. The argument for auto-ejecting justices after a fixed time sounds good in theory, but lets be real: it’s basically an invitation to make sure only “progressive” judges continue serving, effectively rigging the system to ensure a stacked deck. The underlying message from the left seems to be that they cannot trust the electorate’s choice of justices unless they can manipulate the process themselves.
In a world where presidents are held accountable after their terms—and in a manner that appears to target only one former president—the hypocrisy is staggering. If their so-called reforms were truly about the integrity of the court, one would think they could start by cleaning up their own houses first, rather than targeting political rivals while waving the banner of “restoring democracy.”
So here’s a thought: instead of trying to condition the Supreme Court like a piñata, how about allowing justices to uphold the Constitution as they were meant to, free from the incessant prattle of politicians who want to airbrush history to fit their narrative? The left might be better served respecting the independence of the judiciary rather than attempting to place it under the umbrella of their ever-expanding control. After all, true democracy is about allowing voices—even the unpopular ones—to flourish under the law, something Justice Gorsuch rightfully champions.
