Biden’s Son Skates Free: GOP Alleges DOJ Cover-Up

House Republicans on Friday accused the Department of Justice (DOJ) of blocking an investigation into a wealthy Democratic donor who allegedly helped Hunter Biden pay off his unpaid taxes. The House Ways and Means Committee obtained evidence from IRS whistleblowers that suggested a top prosecutor in the U.S. attorney’s office in Delaware ignored concerns raised by IRS agents about a possible campaign finance violation linked to the donor, Kevin Morris.

According to the whistleblowers’ testimony, the DOJ gave favorable treatment to Hunter Biden and allowed statutes of limitations to expire for certain tax crimes. While Hunter Biden is expected to be charged with evading taxes in 2017 and 2018, the investigators believe there are additional years under investigation.

The committee highlighted that Morris began assisting Hunter Biden during his father’s presidential campaign in 2020, raising suspicions about potential ulterior motives. Handwritten notes from one of the whistleblowers documented a call with Assistant U.S. Attorney Lesley Wolf, where Wolf expressed disinterest in pursuing the campaign finance concern.

Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (R-MO) expressed concerns over the circumstances surrounding Hunter Biden’s tax liability and questioned whether Morris received something in return for his financial assistance. Smith also criticized the DOJ’s decision to halt the investigation when IRS investigators detected a possible campaign finance violation.

The DOJ has refrained from commenting on the evidence presented by the committee.
