Biden’s Tiptoe Tango: Dodges Israel Feud as Schumer Stirs the Pot

President Joe Biden once again found himself toeing the line, trying not to ruffle any feathers as he navigated the treacherous waters of international diplomacy. Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, a fellow Democrat, went on a tear about how Israel needed to hold new elections, and old Joe didn’t quite throw his weight behind those sentiments. Of course, he didn’t criticize Schumer either, because being non-committal is the name of the game, folks!

Now, Schumer, the top dog of the Jewish crew in the U.S. government, had some choice words to say about Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, hinting that a “new election is the only way” to end the whole Israel-Palestine brouhaha. But hey, Schumer made it clear he wasn’t trying to stick Uncle Sam’s nose in someone else’s election business. Yep, he suggested that the Israel election should happen “once the war starts to wind down.” Real helpful there, Chuck.

During a cozy confab with Irish Prime Minister Leo Varadkar at the White House, Biden finally spoke up about Schumer’s spiel, saying something vague about how Schumer gave a “good speech” and expressed the “serious concern” of many Americans. Translation: Biden managed to make some words come out of his mouth without really committing to anything. Bravo, Joe.

Old Joe has been doing his usual dance around the whole Israel-Palestine brouhaha. At first, he was all buddy-buddy with Netanyahu after Hamas’s terrorist attacks, but then he started to distance himself from Israel’s military operation in Gaza as the civilian casualties piled up. And after his State of the Union speech, he was caught on a hot mic blabbing to lawmakers about how he told Netanyahu they needed to have a “come-to-Jesus meeting” regarding the whole shebang. Real smooth, Joe.

But hey, let’s not forget about Varadkar, who jumped into the mix, waggling his eyebrows and chiming in about how there needs to be a ceasefire ASAP to get food and medicine in and the hostages out. Oh, and let’s not forget the classic two-state solution chant. Yawn.

Of course, Schumer’s little tirade didn’t sit well with some of his fellow Dems and those on the red team. Sen. Tim Kaine, a Democrat from Virginia, made it clear that he didn’t appreciate outsiders poking their noses into Israeli politics, recalling how he didn’t play ball when Netanyahu tried to sway the U.S. on the Iran deal. But hey, who needs opinions on what Israel should do when we’ve got plenty of fish to fry right here at home, right?

So, there you have it, folks: another day in the political circus, where everyone’s talking and no one’s really saying anything at all. Let’s all grab some popcorn and watch the show.
