Biden’s War on Gas Furnaces: Working Families Suffer, Elites Thrive

The Biden administration’s latest regulation demonstrates that the left’s war against America’s working families still lives on, thanks to Obama’s destructive legacy. The regulation, which targets gas furnaces, is another blow to rural communities, especially after Obama’s war on coal which destroyed around 125,000 jobs and lost $650 billion of GDP within a decade. As we know, Biden has pushed for inefficient alternative energy policies and is now straight-up considering having the military adopt electric vehicles, which poses a threat to national security. This comes as no surprise as the left wants to ban gas stoves, which only adds insult to injury for the working households.

The media has been quick to say that the claims of a liberal America wanting to ban gas stoves is a conservative conspiracy theory. But the truth is, they’re trying to sneak in these bans locally to establish a precedent. However, some courts have thankfully struck down these new ordinances. Nonetheless, America’s Left is keen on Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez’s Green New Deal, whose end goal is to ban the internal combustion engine. Since the Green New Deal is a massive and unattainable goal, the Biden crew has to start somewhere. Thus, the Biden administration is set to finalize regulations soon that restrict Americans’ freedom to buy gas-powered furnaces.

According to experts, the administration’s proposed regulations, which the Department of Energy (DOE) introduced in June 2022, would significantly reduce consumer choice, driving up prices and have little impact on greenhouse gas emissions. In other words, it’s clear that this is an example of one size not fitting all, especially if the Biden administration requires furnaces to achieve a 95% annual fuel utilization efficiency (AFUE) by 2029. It only means that manufacturers will only be allowed to sell furnaces that convert at least 95% of the fuel into heat within the next six years. The current market standard AFUE for a residential furnace is 80%.

One downside to the stringent AFUE requirements is that non-condensing gas furnaces — which are generally less efficient but cheaper — would not pass this requirement, making them unavailable. As a result, consumers currently using non-condensing furnaces who want to swap for condensing furnaces after this rule’s implementation will incur enormous installation expenses.

The American Gas Association (AGA), members of which provide natural gas service to over 74 million households across the nation, filed comments against the proposed regulation, stating that consumers would be better served if the DOE allowed the free market to organically increase product efficiency.

This goes without saying that environmentally conscious policies are only achievable by the rich, who can afford to make these significant changes given the change in costs. After all, most Americans can’t afford to solar panel their home or purchase an electric vehicle, especially if they’re not even efficient. An electric pick-up truck won’t cut it in rough terrains, especially when there’s inclement weather and snow stacks up, which limits the vehicle’s power grid. This economy thrives on cheap energy, which we have in abundance in natural gas and coal.

America remains the Saudi Arabia of coal, and instead of wasting time and money on green alternatives that aren’t legitimate and not practical, we should embrace fossil fuels that keep our country moving. The next Republican president will need to move swiftly to reverse Biden’s severe regulations to allow oil and gas industries to do their work, but for now, millions might end up freezing next winter due to Biden’s policies.
