Christie’s 2024 Comeback: Savior for America’s “Exhausted Majority”?

Former New Jersey Governor Chris Christie is set to launch his presidential bid next week in New Hampshire – a tried-and-true stomping ground for Republicans hoping to win the White House. Christie, who slammed former President Trump in the wake of the January 6th Capitol riot, originally ran for President in 2016 but quickly withdrew from the race after coming in sixth in the New Hampshire primaries. Christie’s campaign team, however, has high hopes for what his 2024 candidacy could offer.

According to Axios, Christie’s campaign aims to restore hope and joy to America’s “exhausted majority.” The former New Jersey Governor is apparently looking to be an authentic, happy warrior – speaking his mind and taking risks without worrying about the repercussions. In addition, Christie’s campaign will focus heavily on earned media, using non-traditional strategies to engage with the public and mix things up in the news cycle.

Interestingly, Christie’s allies have already launched a super PAC called “Tell It Like It Is.” Brian Jones, who previously advised both Mitt Romney and John McCain’s presidential campaigns, will be running the effort. Other high-profile advisers to Christie will include William P. Palatucci and Russ Schriefer, while data guru Brent Seaborn will focus on voter targeting. Maria Comella, a former adviser to Andrew Cuomo, and Mike DuHaime, Christie’s top political strategist in 2016, are also expected to run the campaign.

Though Christie has been highly critical of the former President in recent months, Anthony Scaramucci – who served briefly as communications director in Trump’s White House – has pledged to support Christie if he runs. Brian Jones, who will be running Christie’s campaign, said in a statement that “now more than ever we need leaders that have the courage to say not what we want to hear but what we need to hear.” Christie himself is expected to give a speech at Saint Anselm College on Tuesday evening. Republicans across the country will undoubtedly be watching with bated breath to see what Christie has in store for the 2024 campaign.
