According to The Daily Beast, Trump associate Walt Nauta’s attorney, Stanley Woodward, is using Smith’s slip-up to potentially exclude witness testimony from trial or even have the special counsel reprimanded by the court. And honestly, who could blame him? It’s like Smith forgot that there are rules in this country, and those rules dictate that grand juries should stick to investigating crimes in the same jurisdiction where they supposedly occurred.
Woodward is pointing out the not-so-subtle conflict of interest between Nauta and an unindicted witness, aptly referred to as “Trump Employee 4” – a person who, unsurprisingly, is also represented by Woodward. However, Woodward argues that even if there was a conflict, the court should prohibit the witness’s testimony due to Smith’s misuse of the grand jury in D.C. Can I get a “preach”?
Woodward doesn’t stop there, folks. He’s not one to mince words. In a court filing, he calls out Smith’s egregious behavior, claiming that the special counsel is trying to undermine the court’s authority and destroy attorney-client relationships all without any basis specific to the facts of the case. Talk about a power trip!
But wait, there’s more! Politico has reported that “Trump Employee 4” is actually Yuscil Taveras, the former director of information technology at Trump’s beloved Mar-a-Lago resort. Taveras, who previously claimed to know nothing about alleged attempts to delete surveillance footage, has suddenly done a complete 180 and spilled the beans to the D.C. grand jury. Cue the gasps!
Now, the special counsel’s team is acting like they’ve scored a big win, announcing in a filing that Taveras will be a trial witness and spill all the details about the supposed efforts to delete security footage. But let’s not forget, this is the same witness who conveniently changed his story after Woodward stopped representing him. Can we say “sudden case of amnesia”?
