Poll Shows Trump Approval at 50 Percent Despite Democrat Narratives

A recent Harvard CAPS/Harris poll has thrown a wrench into the narrative spun by Democrats that suggests the Department of Government Efficiency, affectionately abbreviated as DOGE, is sinking support for former President Donald Trump faster than an anchor in a swimming pool. Contrary to the left’s wishful thinking, the poll found that Trump’s approval rating sits at a solid 50%, much to the chagrin of those cozying up to their doom-and-gloom narratives.

The disapproval rating for Trump was reported at 43%, which is merely a ripple in the ocean of public opinion. This lines up nicely with other polling data, suggesting that many Americans still have fond feelings for the man who cultivated the booming economy before being hamstrung by bureaucracy and bad policies. Perhaps it’s time for Democrats to reconsider their polling tactics, or at least consult a magic eight ball for guidance.

When it comes to the government’s spending habits, the poll revealed a staggering 83% of voters would rather see the government tighten its belt than reach for their wallets. With such a massive majority favoring spending cuts over tax increases, one has to wonder if there’s a more straightforward way to communicate fiscal responsibility than to flash a “No more taxes!” sign. Maybe a simple tweet would suffice.

Even more telling is that a whopping 70% of those surveyed described government spending as a playground filled with waste and fraud—an alarming admission that suggests the tip jar is not just full; it’s overflowing. Further backing the cause, 69% of respondents expressed support for eventually cutting government spending by $1 trillion. That’s not just some small change; that’s a dent capable of making a difference. If American taxpayers had a dollar for every time they said they want spending cuts, they might just be able to fund several ambitious government efficiency projects.

However, not everything is sunshine and rainbows in the world of DOGE. While many appreciate the potential for significant cutbacks, a significant 58% of voters are skeptical about letting DOGE employees near personal information that should remain confidential. It’s a fair point—no one wants their sensitive data floating around like it’s an episode of a reality show. It seems that while DOGE’s efforts in trimming the fat are welcome, voters are still cautious about who is wielding the axe.

Conducted between February 19-20, the poll surveyed 2,443 registered voters, and it’s clear that between wrestling with the budget and battling narratives, the American public isn’t falling for the left’s theatrical ploys anytime soon. The numbers speak volumes, and as these results show, there’s no shortage of appetite among Americans for a leaner, meaner government. So, perhaps it’s time for the Democrats to retire their dog-eared playbook and recognize that the tide is shifting on fiscal matters.
