Well, well, well, folks! It looks like the good ol’ U.S. of A. is finally getting its act together when it comes to crime! According to reports from the FBI and some smarty-pants criminologists, the United States is seeing a major drop in homicides in 2023.

In a report by the New York Times, it was revealed that the murder rates are dropping like a hot potato, and we’re talking a massive drop here, people! In 2020, there was a huge spike in murders, but now it looks like Uncle Sam is turning that trend around.
It’s not just homicides that are taking a nosedive. According to the FBI, almost all violent and property crime categories are on the decline, except for vehicle theft.
Now, some smarty pants named Jeff Asher, who fancies himself a crime analyst, is saying that these crime rates are being influenced by “big national factors.” He’s talking about how COVID-19 and other national events played a role in the spike of murders, but now they’re driving those numbers down.
However, before we start throwing confetti and doing victory dances, let’s not forget that murder and most other crimes are still higher than they were before all the madness of 2020.
Different cities are experiencing different levels of crime. Detroit is looking at the lowest number of murders since the 1960s, while Philadelphia and Los Angeles are also seeing drops in homicides and shooting victims. On the flip side, Washington, D.C. is dealing with a two-decade high in murders.
