The professor from Columbia University who had previously called for defunding the police is now seeking protection from law enforcement amid anti-Israel protests on campus. Shai Davidai, an assistant professor at Columbia Business School, had criticized police in the past for using their weapons disproportionately on black men. Still, now he is asking for a police escort to ensure his safety at the university. He accused Columbia of failing to protect Jewish students and requested a police escort of at least ten officers.

According to reports, Davidai has received over 50 complaints from students accusing him of harassment, and the university has confirmed that he is under investigation. However, the professor stated that he has never targeted students by name, only referring to them as “pro-Hamas” student organizations. As a Jewish individual, he alleged that he was banned from campus after trying to lead a pro-Jewish rally at the university, and he claimed that the last time a professor was denied access to their university for being Jewish was in Nazi Germany.
The situation at Columbia University has attracted attention, with calls for the university president to resign due to the perceived failure to address the pro-Hamas protests. The professor and several students stood in solidarity with the university’s Jewish students in response to the ongoing demonstrations on campus.
