Democrats have spent years labeling Donald Trump a “Putin puppet,” claiming he was in cahoots with the Russian leader to sway the 2016 election. Fast forward to now, and following a heated Oval Office meeting with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Vice President JD Vance, it seems the Democrats have reverted to their old scripts, conveniently ignoring the shifting tides of international diplomacy.
In typical partisan fashion, Democratic Representative Seth Moulton did not hold back. He insisted that Trump was a coward acting at the behest of Putin, while he labeled Vice President Vance as another one of Trump’s “pawns.” Meanwhile, Senator Sheldon Whitehouse chimed in with his own dramatic flair, comparing the leaders to ventriloquist dummies for Russia. Apparently, this is what passes for political insight in Washington these days.
While the Democrats rush to paint Trump as a puppet, the reality is that Russia is currently doing a number on Ukraine, and Trump’s approach is to push for a peace settlement. Unlike the Biden administration, which seems content to write blank checks and watch Ukraine face heavy losses, Trump proposed a straightforward solution: get both sides to the negotiating table and threaten economic sanctions against Russia until an agreement is reached.
It’s amusing that the political elite would prefer to focus on Trump’s comments about Zelensky rather than the real consequences of the ongoing conflict. Trump, after all, is advocating for an end to the bloodshed in a manner that would be more appealing to anyone tired of endless war. By proposing hefty banking sanctions on Russia, he’s leaning on America’s economic muscle to bring about a much-needed ceasefire.

It’s essential to highlight some facts that the mainstream media often gloss over. Russia seized Crimea during President Obama’s tenure, and the full-scale invasion happened while President Biden appeared to be snoozing through the crisis. Despite three years of what could only be described as blank checks for Ukraine, the situation has not improved; in fact, they are losing ground daily.
Despite the shouting match that erupted in the wake of last week’s meeting, Zelensky has positioned himself as willing to engage in negotiations, acknowledging the significance of America’s role in Ukraine’s defense. It’s clear that Trump’s pragmatic diplomatic strategy, while not necessarily winning over the elite crowd in Washington, does have the potential to yield tangible results in bringing peace to the region.
So, the question remains: who is actually leading with a sound strategy? As the Democrats continue to fling mud, Trump is laying out a plan aimed at stopping the suffering and preventing total devastation. It’s time to rethink the narrative being pushed by the political left and recognize the practical solutions being proposed by Trump.
