Dems Turn Cities Into Big Brother Havens, Soft on Crime

The Democrats in charge of major cities across the country seem to think that catching criminals is just too much effort, so they’ve decided to turn their cities into surveillance states instead. The latest example comes from California, where Governor Gavin Newsom has announced the installation of a whopping 480 surveillance cameras in and around Oakland. According to Newsom, the goal is to provide law enforcement with the tools they need to combat criminal activity and hold perpetrators accountable.

But hold on a minute. Installing a bunch of cameras might sound good in theory, but let’s face it, it’s not going to solve the real problem in Oakland. The issue isn’t the lack of surveillance—it’s the lack of prosecution. Even if you catch criminals on camera, it doesn’t do much good in a city where the district attorney seems to think that letting violent offenders off the hook is just fine and dandy. With that kind of attitude, it doesn’t matter how many cameras you have; the criminals won’t stay behind bars for long.

So what’s the point of putting up all these cameras if the city has no intention of actually going after the criminals they capture on film? It’s starting to look like Oakland is using the excuse of fighting crime to justify turning itself into a surveillance state, all while its top law enforcement official couldn’t seem to care less about cracking down on criminal activity.

And to top it all off, one has to wonder if these cameras will even work properly. I wouldn’t be surprised if each one ended up costing a fortune and then failed to operate at night because, you know, they run on solar power. It’s just another example of Democratic incompetence in action.

At the end of the day, what Oakland really needs isn’t more cameras. It needs leaders who are actually serious about combating crime and keeping criminals off the streets. Until the city can find those kinds of leaders, all those cameras will do is provide a front-row seat to crimes that no one seems to care about prosecuting. And if the Democratic-run state of California can’t even ensure that the cameras work as intended, then who knows what these surveillance efforts will actually accomplish? It’s a real mess out there in the Golden State, and it’s getting harder and harder to take anything for granted.
