In a fiery speech delivered at the Heritage Foundation, Republican Gov. Ron DeSantis took aim at President Joe Biden and his administration, accusing them of prioritizing illegal immigrants over American citizens. DeSantis criticized the Biden administration for charging American citizens for their evacuation from Israel, while simultaneously providing free transportation to illegal immigrants across the United States.
DeSantis highlighted the stark contrast between the treatment of American citizens fleeing a warzone and that of illegal immigrants. He lamented the fact that those entering the country illegally are provided with hotel accommodations and transportation at no cost, while American citizens are billed for their evacuation efforts. “It isn’t right,” DeSantis emphatically declared.
The Florida governor specifically referred to the Biden administration’s chartering of a cruise ship to transport U.S. citizens from Israel to Cyprus, requiring them to sign a promissory note to reimburse the government for the costs. He questioned why the same courtesy was not extended to American citizens as it was to illegal immigrants crossing the border.

DeSantis also discussed his own administration’s efforts to evacuate Florida citizens from Israel, vowing not to charge them for the cost of travel. He proudly mentioned rescuing nearly 700 Americans from Israel following the Hamas terrorist attacks.
In addition to criticizing the handling of the evacuation efforts, DeSantis touched on other foreign policy issues, particularly the threat posed by the Chinese Communist Party (CCP). He emphasized the need for a comprehensive approach in dealing with China and described them as the “first truly peer competitor” the United States has faced in its modern history.
As a presidential candidate, DeSantis currently trails former President Donald Trump in the Republican primary race by a significant margin. However, he continues to make his conservative voice heard and present himself as a strong contender.
