Disney Junior’s “Ready for Preschool” cartoon episode on Disney+ has caused controversy, as it aims to teach pre-schoolers about equity. The conservative media has criticized the show for using classic Disney characters such as Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Pluto, and Goofy to explain equality and equity. The episode explains that while everyone should receive equal treatment, sometimes “equality just doesn’t make things fair”. The episode shows the characters sharing lunch equally. However, it explains that when picking apples, some need help as some are short and some are tall, which is where the concept of equity comes in. The show depicts Goofy using his box to help Pluto reach the apples, and Minnie giving some of her apples to Mickey because “fair equals fun”.
