Canary Mission released a clip this week from a Progressive Victory fundraiser where left-wing podcaster Kyle Kulinski said something shocking — and not in a good way. In the video Kulinski mourned the idea of removing Iran as a regional power because, he said, that would cut off funding for Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis. Several DSA-aligned politicians and candidates were on the call. The reaction should worry every voter who cares about national security.
What the clip actually shows
The short video comes from a March event called “Choose Your Fighter.” Kulinski argued that if Iran were neutralized, “Hezbollah can’t be funded. Hamas can’t be funded. The Houthis can’t be funded.” He went further and compared U.S. and Israeli officials to dictators. Attendees included Rep. Ro Khanna, former Rep. Cori Bush, Michigan Senate candidate Abdul El-Sayed and a slate of DSA-aligned hopefuls. Progressive Victory’s leadership said the remarks “reflect the views of our community,” while Khanna’s office said he “joined for 5 minutes” and wasn’t present for those comments.
Why this matters for national security and common sense
Say it plainly: mourning the loss of funding to groups that have killed Americans and targeted allies is tone-deaf and alarming. This isn’t academic debate. Hezbollah, Hamas and the Houthis are proxies that have carried out terror and instability across the region. A U.S. politician who shrugs at the prospect of cutting their funds has a serious explanation to offer voters. The Progressive Victory defense — that these comments reflect “community views” — is a thin attempt to normalize something voters will find unacceptable.
Political fallout and the DSA’s growing reach
The clip also exposes the expanding reach of DSA-aligned candidates inside the Democratic coalition. Candidates tied to the DSA are pushing into major races, and their rhetoric matters. Voters in swing districts shouldn’t buy a shrug or a five-minute appearance as plausible deniability. If you attend a fundraiser where someone says U.S. policy is “fascist” and laments the loss of terror proxies’ funding, you need to say something — loudly and clearly. Silence is an answer.
Republicans should use this moment to press the case on national security and plain values. Voters deserve clarity: do their candidates stand with America and our allies, or with the regimes and proxies that threaten them? That is the simple question at the heart of this clip. Democrats who want to remain competitive will have to decide whether to clean house or keep defending a fringe that thinks cutting terror money is something to mourn. Either way, the voters will remember.
