This is not abstract; Coleman says he lost his job driving trucks and now struggles to feed and care for nine children while tending to a daughter who will never be the same. He reminded lawmakers that his wife came to this country the right way, following the legal path, and he demanded that law-abiding families be treated with the same seriousness and protection. Voters should hear that while elites posture, hardworking families pay the price.
The hearing itself was supposed to examine sanctuary policies that hamstring cooperation with federal immigration enforcement — policies Republicans have warned put Americans at risk. Witnesses and committee members laid out how local non-cooperation can let dangerous actors remain on the roads and in communities, and Coleman’s testimony was a painful, living example of that reality. Our leaders can’t keep swapping heartfelt statements for policy inaction.
Patriot voters should be furious and motivated, not merely sympathetic. This is a clarion call to elect representatives who will secure the border, enforce immigration laws, and put American children and families ahead of political theater. If Democrats keep pretending a fundamentally broken status quo is acceptable, hardworking Americans must remember this father’s words at the ballot box.
