In a shocking turn of events, police in central Oklahoma stumbled upon a cockfighting operation while responding to a barn fire. Can you believe it? Not only were they dealing with a blazing inferno, but they also had to confront the gruesome world of rooster fighting. What a day!
It all started when animal welfare officers, bless their hearts, were trying to assist the fire department. Instead of just dealing with the flames like normal people, they discovered a “large-scale rooster fighting operation” nearby. Talk about a two-for-one special! The Norman Police Department was quickly alerted, and they sprang into action.

Upon further investigation, officers found a total of 77 roosters in deplorable conditions. It seems these poor birds were subjected to brutal training and exploitation for the sole purpose of fighting. It’s a shame that people would stoop so low as to mistreat innocent animals like that. But don’t worry, the authorities swooped in to save the day.
The roosters were promptly whisked away to an out-of-state sanctuary for treatment and rehabilitation. Hallelujah! At least there’s hope for these feathered fighters to have a better life now. Meanwhile, investigations into this heinous and inhumane activity are ongoing, and criminal charges are looming over the culprits responsible.
But here’s the kicker: this isn’t the first time something like this has happened. Oh no, it’s becoming quite the trend. And what’s even more interesting is that the cockfighting supporters, in their infinite wisdom, thought they could sway the Oklahoma Legislature to ease up on the cockfighting laws. Well, guess what? Their efforts have backfired!
According to a joint statement, these busts have only increased in frequency since 2002, when Oklahoma passed its cockfighting law. Talk about poetic justice. It turns out that trying to reduce the risk of arrest and prosecution has only shone a spotlight on the cockfighting problem. Kudos to the officials who remain committed to shutting down this barbaric practice.
Now, here’s where the story takes a political twist. Our Republican Governor, Kevin Stitt, found himself in hot water for seemingly supporting the Oklahoma Gamefowl Commission (OGC) – the very group responsible for the failed attempt to lessen the penalties for cockfighting. Of course, the liberal media jumped at the chance to criticize him and even got YouTube to take down his video.
But let me tell you, folks, the OGC’s actions speak louder than Governor Stitt’s words. They not only donated money to numerous office-holders, including Stitt himself, but they even had one of their district directors arrested for participating in this illegal activity. It makes you wonder who’s really to blame here.
In the end, it’s heartening to see that justice is slowly being served. The cockfighting community’s attempts to evade punishment have only led to greater awareness and stronger enforcement. Maybe one day we’ll live in a world where animals are treated with kindness and respect, and people like the OGC will face the consequences for their actions. One can only hope.
