From Flush to Faucet: CA’s Wacky Water Plan Revealed!

The California State Water Resources Control Board has given the green light to a new scheme that would allow local water agencies to transform wastewater into tap water. The new regulations would permit toilet and shower water to be converted into drinking water after a thorough cleaning process, in a bid to address climate change.

Despite the approval, implementation is still years away, with cities like Los Angeles, San Diego, and San Jose still in the research phase. But don’t worry, folks, the board members want you to know that the water will be safe to drink after being treated at a “higher level” for hours to days. So, basically, they want you to drink water that, at some point, may have been in someone’s morning shower or toilet. Gross.

The whole “toilet to tap” or “flush to faucet” idea has garnered some support from Jennifer West, managing director of WateReuse California, who believes this could be a “model for the rest of the nation.” Well, we’ll pass on that model, thanks.

But hey, this isn’t California’s first ride on the “poop water” train. Singapore and Namibia are already doing this, and Namibia is currently facing a water contamination crisis with their recycled water not fit for human consumption. Doesn’t that just make you want to grab a big gulp of some fresh, ice-cold toilet water?

And for the grand finale, the construction on this whole project is expected to start in 2025, with plans to start serving up this recycled water by 2032. Ah, the sweet taste of progress.

Did you know that this whole toilet water business has been pushed by none other than Bill Gates? That’s right, folks, the man who wants to recycle your poop water has been at it since at least 2015. He even played a little prank on Jimmy Fallon, asking him to drink “poop water” on national television. How delightful.
