Guess what? Hold onto your hats, folks, because House Republicans are at it again! They just can’t seem to make up their minds when it comes to selecting their nominee for Speaker of the House. Remember when Majority Leader Steve Scalise had a shot at it on Wednesday? Well, turns out he didn’t have enough support and had to withdraw like a turtle tucking its head back into its shell. Classic Scalise move, if you ask me.

But fear not, my conservative friends, because now we have House Judiciary Chairman Jim Jordan stepping up to the plate. This guy received even more votes than Scalise did, not once but twice! On Friday, Jordan snagged a whopping 124 votes, which is more than Scalise managed to muster. Talk about a power move! Still, no cigar for Jordan as he fell short of the necessary 217 votes to win on the House floor. It’s like watching an episode of “The Bachelor” but with politicians instead of roses.
Can you believe it? They’re going for round two! Jordan requested another secret-ballot round of votes, hoping lightning would strike twice. And guess what? He got some more support, landing 152 votes this time. But alas, it still wasn’t enough. At this rate, it feels like the Republicans will need to hold a bake-off or a dance competition to determine their Speaker of the House. It’s all a bit absurd if you ask me.
Now, here’s the kicker. The House has been without a speaker for over a week, and there’s a whole government shutdown looming. You’d think they would prioritize getting their act together and making a decision, but apparently not. And let’s not forget about supporting our good ol’ ally, Israel, after getting attacked by Hamas. But no, no vote on Friday night because apparently, they enjoy keeping us in suspense.
Oh, and let’s not forget about Liz Cheney. She’s been trending too because she decided to express her “great concern” about Jordan. Some folks see this as a reason to support Jordan even more because if Cheney’s worried, it must mean he’s doing something right. It’s like reverse psychology, but in the political realm.
Ladies and gentlemen, it’s time for these House Republicans to put on their big boy pants and make up their minds. I mean, come on, it shouldn’t take them this long to figure out who will lead their party and actually get things done. But hey, I guess it’s just another day in the world of politics.
