That combination — veteran politician plus billionaire backer — creates a tone deafness that ordinary folks smell a mile off. When leaders speak in pundit-speak and donor-speak, people hear two things: we don’t get you, and we don’t really need you.
What this means on Main Street
This isn’t just cable-news theater. High taxes, crowded cities, and businesses squeezed by regulation hit families in the wallet and small employers in the books. Illinois already ranks near the top for people and businesses voting with their feet; when the people who run the state move in a different social and economic universe, those consequences deepen.
