Hillary Clinton has resurfaced in Netflix’s new docuseries The American Experiment to do what she has done for a decade — re-litigate 2016 and complain about the rules she lost under. In the series she dismissively calls the Electoral College “an abomination,” a line that makes clear this isn’t historical reflection so much as a personal grudge dressed up as constitutional critique.
For those who remember, 2016 ended with Clinton winning the nationwide popular vote but losing the presidency, and she has never stopped blaming everything but her campaign for that defeat. The Netflix appearance is just the latest stop on a long media tour where the same refrain — the system was unfair to me — is recycled for clicks and sympathetic coverage.
Patriots should be clear-eyed: the Electoral College is not some arbitrary relic to be tossed aside because a coastal double-digit victory didn’t translate into a presidency. The Founders designed a federal system that balances interests across the union, and if you eliminate that balance you hand the keys to a handful of population centers — something Clinton’s complaints conveniently ignore.
What’s more galling is the performative outrage. A former first lady who spent decades in the halls of power now plays the victim when outcomes don’t go her way, while pundits and platforms amplify her tantrum as if it were a statesmanlike reflection. Conservatives rightly see this as part of a broader push by establishment elites to change rules when the results aren’t to their liking, and ordinary Americans should be wary of any rewrite that rewards political convenience.
If anything, Clinton’s snide laugh and repeated digs at the Electoral College only remind voters why so many distrust the political class. Rather than abominations, true patriots defend the constitutional compromises that hold the republic together and reject efforts to centralize power under the guise of fairness. The next time Washington’s elites want to rewrite the rules because they lost, hardworking Americans should remember who benefits when the balancing mechanisms are removed and stand firm for the Constitution.
