The House Speaker Mike Johnson was not backing down on Tuesday, despite calls for his resignation from fellow Republican Rep. Thomas Massie. Marjorie Taylor Greene, urged Johnson to resign and is now co-sponsoring a motion to oust him from the speakership.
Johnson bluntly faced the reporters and stated that he would not resign and dismissed the notion of a motion to vacate as “absurd.” He stressed that he and his colleagues were merely focusing on their legislative duties and that resigning would be neither helpful for House Republicans nor in the best interest of the country. He cited issues such as securing the border and ensuring sound governance as top priorities for the unity and advancement of the Republican agenda.
