Houthi Hot Air: Yemeni Rebel’s US Warship Threats Ring Hollow

The leader of the Iran-backed Houthi insurgents of Yemen, Abdel-Malek al-Houthi, has issued a brazen threat to attack U.S. warships in the Red Sea if Operation Prosperity Guardian dares to use military force against his band of terrorists. In a televised tirade, he railed against the United States, vowing to make American battleships, interests, and navigation targets for his group’s missiles, drones, and military operations.

The Houthi leader’s menacing rhetoric didn’t stop there. He snarled that any American targeting of Yemen would be met with harsh consequences, claiming that the Americans would face something even more severe than what they experienced in Afghanistan and Vietnam. Clearly, al-Houthi is puffing himself up, trying to make himself out to be some kind of tough guy. But let’s face it, these threats are about as empty as a politician’s promise.

This isn’t the first time the Houthis have tried to throw their weight around. They’ve allegedly already attempted to attack American and allied warships in the Red Sea with drones. But let’s not forget, these unmanned aerial vehicles have been no match for the might of the U.S. military. Our ships have intercepted and destroyed every single one of those Houthi drones, showing these so-called insurgents that they’re no match for the greatest military force on the planet.

It’s no surprise that this group of thugs is trying to stir up trouble. With the formation of a ten-member Red Sea security coalition known as Operation Prosperity Guardian announced by U.S. Secretary of Defense Lloyd Austin, the Houthis are undoubtedly feeling the heat. They’re desperate to cling to any sense of relevancy, issuing empty threats and trying to divert attention from their own violent and terror-inducing actions.

But let’s set the record straight here. The Houthis may try to pass themselves off as the legitimate government of the part of Yemen they control, calling themselves “Ansar Allah,” the Army of Allah. But the truth is, they have no legitimacy or international credibility. They rule through fear and terror, toppling the internationally recognized government by force in 2014. This jihadi movement has unleashed a brutal civil war, causing untold suffering for the people of Yemen.

And let’s not forget who the Houthis really are – a violent group with a slogan that includes “Death to the United States” and “Death to Israel.” Yet, President Joe Biden actually lifted the classification of this terrorist organization in a move that reeks of weakness and appeasement. It’s clear that the Biden administration’s attempt to cozy up with these terrorists has only emboldened them, leading to more suffering and instability in the region.

The Houthis and their backers in Iran have continually blocked humanitarian aid and committed numerous human rights violations, including the use of child soldiers. It’s time for the United States to stand firm against these ruthless extremists and show them that their empty threats will not be tolerated. The American military has the strength and the will to thwart any aggression from the likes of al-Houthi and his band of thugs. It’s time to put these terrorists in their place and stand up for peace and stability in the Middle East.
