ICE Demands Dallas Hold 3 Suspected Killers After Baby’s Death

Immigration and Customs Enforcement has stepped in after two brutal crimes in Texas, asking Dallas officials to hold three suspected illegal alien killers in custody. One case left a pregnant woman’s child dead after an emergency C-section. These are not accidents or paperwork problems — they are violent crimes with real victims and a clear call for action.

ICE moves to keep dangerous aliens off the streets

ICE filed detainer requests for Nicaraguan national Keyner Ariel Calero-Jiron, an unnamed 17-year-old suspect, and Mexican national Luis Benitez-Gonzalez. Authorities say Calero-Jiron and the juvenile opened fire at a gas station, injuring three people and causing the pregnant victim to lose her baby. In a separate case, DNA tied Benitez-Gonzalez to two murders in Texas — one in Bastrop County in 2018 and another in Austin in 2024. Those are the kinds of crimes that demand federal and local cooperation, not excuses.

The human cost and policy failure

The horror of a mother losing her child because of a shooting is almost too raw to write. But this tragedy should also be a lesson about policy. When people enter the country illegally or avoid proper screening, the risks don’t stay on paper. They show up at gas stations, in neighborhoods, and in courtrooms. Acting Assistant Secretary Lauren Bis made it plain: ICE asked Dallas officials not to release these accused murderers so they can’t terrorize communities again.

Why Dallas must act — and what voters should expect

Dallas already cooperates with federal immigration enforcement, and Mayor Eric Johnson has said the city will comply with ICE’s detainers. That’s good. Compliance matters. When local leaders put politics ahead of safety, taxpayers and victims pay the price. Voters should expect clear statements and steady action from their officials, not hedging or moralizing while violent offenders roam free.

This moment is about more than headlines. It’s about holding violent criminals accountable and fixing an immigration system that lets too many bad actors slip through. If Dallas and federal authorities do their jobs, these suspects will face justice. If not, communities will keep paying with lives and peace of mind — and that is a cost no one should accept.
