A group known as the Oversight Project has dug into the travel histories of these would-be attackers and, assuming their findings hold up, the results draw a striking picture of bizarre and suspicious globetrotting.
Ryan Routh, one of the individuals under scrutiny, seems to have traded in his patriotic American road trips for an international vacation tour. His reported travel locations span from the sunny shores of Hawaii to far-flung spots like Brazil, Korea, and even Singapore. It’s eyebrow-raising that someone with such dubious intentions would have the funds and freedom to gallivant around the globe. The only truly striking detail from his travels is a conspicuous lack of any true motivation behind the jet-setting, leaving the public to wonder what exactly he was up to.

On the other hand, Thomas Crooks, the shooter at a rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, does not seem to have the same penchant for globe-trotting. His connections are more localized, primarily spanning northern Virginia, Pennsylvania, New York, and Massachusetts. While Crooks may not have the global reach of his counterpart, a lack of travel does not diminish the need for investigators to look deeper into these cases of politically motivated violence.
