Republican Senator Lankford from Oklahoma has some strong words for President Joe Biden when it comes to border security. The senator appeared on State of the Union Sunday and did not hold back in expressing his disappointment with Biden’s handling of the border crisis. Lankford believes that Biden should take a page out of the playbook of former President Obama and enforce border security more rigorously.
Despite facing criticism from other Republicans for his border negotiations with Democrats, Lankford stands by his efforts, insisting that they were misrepresented ahead of the failed bill. He’s not backing down, and he’s not afraid to call out the President on his perceived lack of action.
Biden mentioned the failed bill during his recent speech, but disappointed many conservatives by not indicating any intention to reinstate former President Trump’s border policies. Lankford specifically pointed to executive orders like Title 42, which restricted immigration during the pandemic, and the “Remain in Mexico” policy as actions Biden could take to tighten border security.
Lankford is adamant that Biden has the power to enforce these measures, even referencing a court order to leave the “Remain in Mexico” policy in place. He doesn’t hold back in his criticism, reminding the President and his team that even President Obama, whom they admire, managed to enforce border security more effectively with the same set of laws.
The numbers don’t lie, with over 242,587 immigrants attempting to enter the United States last month alone, and over 10 million reportedly entering illegally since Biden took office. Lankford sees no hope for a replacement border security bill passing this year, and he didn’t miss the opportunity to drive his point home by suggesting that if Biden won’t enforce border security the way Trump did, he should at least follow in Obama’s footsteps.
Lankford’s words reflect the frustration felt by many conservatives who believe that Biden’s lax approach to border security is failing the country. The senator’s message is clear: it’s time for President Biden to step up and take stronger action to secure the border.
