Former First Lady Michelle Obama has announced the launch of a new food and beverage company aiming to “transform” the food industry, according to reports. The company, PLEZi Nutrition, is committed to providing healthier options to combat childhood obesity. As the co-founder of PLEZi Nutrition, Obama has stated that the company will tackle the problem of childhood obesity by providing healthier options for parents when it comes to food choices. The company’s first product, a fruit juice designed for kids, contains 75% less sugar than similar products and can already be found at some retailers, CNN reported.
During her time as the First Lady, Obama tried to transform kids’ diets by implementing a school lunch program that didn’t go quite as planned. A 2014 report from the Government Accountability Office (GAO) found that student participation in the program fell by 1.2 million nationwide. The same report also highlighted an increase in plate waste, with many foods offered being tossed rather than consumed by the students. It’s time to say no to government overreach into our dietary choices. Parents should have the option to decide for themselves what their children should eat.

Obama has said that if you want to change the game, you have to get inside, but the food and beverage industry doesn’t need to be changed. The industry is perfectly capable of catering to all of our dietary needs. This company is the result of a misguided belief in government control of our lives, resulting in more and more regulations on what we put in our bodies. We don’t need Michelle Obama’s new company to tell us what to eat. We can make these decisions for ourselves.
