Former Vice President Mike Pence became the first vice president in the modern era to testify against the president he served with during the Jack Smith investigation into the Jan. 6 Capitol Riot. The testimony lasted for over five hours and Pence was questioned about conversations with former President Donald Trump on and leading up to Jan. 6. Although Pence and Trump tried to avoid the subpoena, Pence complied with the law and testified before the grand jury.

One of the arguments put forth by Pence’s counsel was that the Vice President is protected by the Constitution’s speech and debate clause, which shields members of the Legislature from engaging in legal matters related to their work. The clerk of the U.S. House of Representatives, G. Thomas Porteous, found this argument to be flawed, as Pence was not in the legislative branch at that time, but was instead serving in the executive branch as President of the Senate.
This testimony is just another example of the desperate attempts by the left to cling to the false narrative that Trump incited the Capitol Riot. These frivolous subpoenas and investigations only serve to distract from the real issues facing our country, such as dealing with the crisis at the southern border and ending the inflation caused by Biden’s reckless and irresponsible spending.
Donald Trump and Mike Pence have been unfairly targeted by the Democrats ever since they took office, and this is just another attempt to drag their names through the mud. It’s a shame that the left is obsessed with tearing down conservative leaders instead of working towards making America great again.
It remains to be seen what the consequences of this investigation will be, but one thing is for sure – the political witch hunt against Trump and his supporters must come to an end. It’s time for the left to stop wasting taxpayer dollars on these pointless investigations and focus on the real needs of the American people.
