NY Governor Activates National Guard for Paperwork Aid to Illegals!

In this episode of "Political Responses to Immigration Challenges"…From various cities, including Washington, D.C., New York City, Martha's Vineyard, Los Angeles, and more, Democratic politicians are consistently reacting strongly whenever Florida Governor Ron DeSantis or Texas Governor Greg Abbott send groups of undocumented immigrants to their respective states.

New York's Democratic Governor, Kathy Hochul, has decided to take a bold step in response to the influx of undocumented immigrants into the Empire State. She has called for additional National Guard troops to assist in managing the situation by aiding these individuals in completing paperwork to apply for federal employment authorization. The goal is to help them attain legal work status and eventually leave taxpayer-funded shelters. Hochul made an unusual statement, saying:

"It is critical that we help secure work authorization for asylum seekers and migrants in New York. We need to ensure individuals can navigate the paperwork necessary to get them established here so they can work and start making their American Dream a reality."

However, many disagree with this approach. They argue that it's not the responsibility of Americans to provide assistance to foreign nationals who have entered the country illegally in pursuit of the American Dream. This question is rhetorical because, for many, it's clear that such a responsibility doesn't exist.

Hochul's decision comes after the Biden administration recently granted Temporary Protective Status (TPS) to approximately 472,000 asylum-seeking Venezuelans who arrived in the country as of July 31. TPS allows individuals who would otherwise be considered undocumented to work legally. This move indicates that the increasing number of people fleeing countries like Venezuela and heading to the U.S.-Mexican border may anticipate receiving a similar status.

Speaking of asylum seekers, to seek asylum in the United States, a person must already be in the country and believe they will face persecution if they return to their home country based on factors such as race, religion, nationality, social group, or political opinion. However, there are concerns that a significant number of individuals arriving at the southern border may have been coached on what to say when encountering Customs and Border Protection agents.

In conclusion, Republicans have long argued that policies like TPS, "sanctuary" cities, and Democratic immigration policies, which they believe include inadequate enforcement of federal immigration laws, encourage foreign nationals to come to the border. Some even suggest that the ultimate goal for Democrats is to import as many future Democratic voters as possible. The 2024 general election is seen as crucial in addressing these immigration challenges, and the outcome will have significant implications for the future of immigration policy in the United States.
