Port Strike Enters Day Two as Biden Silent Trump Blames Harris for Economic Fallout

A port strike that could bring the U.S. economy to its knees is already entering day two, and it seems the longshoremen are quite proud of their chaos-causing efforts. As the first major port strike in over 40 years unfolds, the president of the Longshoremen’s Union is reveling in the disruption, claiming that everyday Americans are just now waking up to the fact that their boats won’t be coming in—literally and figuratively. It’s almost as if they believe their plight is now deserving of sympathy simply because everyone else’s grocery bills are skyrocketing.

Former President Donald Trump has made his voice heard amid this disruption, pointing fingers at current Vice President Kamala Harris for the destructive path the economy has taken. Trump asserts that had he been in office, the strike would never have happened at all. He attributes this strike to inflation stoked by Harris’s votes on reckless spending and the abandonment of energy exploration. According to him, the very workers who thrived under his administration are now struggling to make ends meet because of the decisions made by the current administration. It appears he believes the Longshoremen’s grievances are directly linked to the broader failures of a federal government that doesn’t seem to care about American workers.

Biden’s response, or lack thereof, to this strike raises eyebrows. Instead of stepping in to prevent this economic calamity from escalating by invoking the Taft-Hartley Act—a law designed explicitly for national emergency disputes—Biden is opting for silence. His reluctance to utilize this federal law demonstrates a clear preference for political alliances rather than the welfare of American families. He’s leaving the nation to sweat it out while he plays mediator in a game of labor negotiations that could take weeks, if not longer.

Since April 1947, Taft-Hartley has served as a bulwark against labor strife that disrupts the national economy. Yet Biden seems less concerned with historical precedent and labor stability than with appeasing the political factions that have bankrolled his rise to power. It’s astonishing how the current administration appears to sidestep federal laws when they conflict with their political agenda while leaving American workers to face the consequences of their inaction.

In a media landscape that revels in only partial reporting, one wonders when the follow-up questions will arise. Will anyone ask how these decisions impact everyday Americans struggling with escalating prices and empty shelves? For now, it’s all quiet on the network news front, as the chaos continues to roll in like the ships they are currently waiting for—if they even arrive at all.
