Republican National Committee chief counsel Charlie Spies has chosen to step down from his position just months after taking on the role. Spies stated that his commitment to his law firm clients made it difficult for him to work full time at the RNC. Despite this, he remains dedicated to the goal of electing President Trump and Republicans in the upcoming November elections.

RNC spokeswoman Danielle Alvarez also mentioned potential conflicts in time commitment as a contributing factor to Spies’s decision to resign. She highlighted that although the RNC appreciates his expertise and professionalism, it became apparent that balancing the full-time role with his law firm obligations was unfeasible. Reports have surfaced, citing an anonymous source, claiming that Spies was forced out of his position, but this remains unconfirmed.
Spies was brought on board earlier in the year during a transition in RNC leadership that aligned with former President Donald Trump’s preferences. His appointment was part of a series of new hires geared towards supporting Trump’s initiatives, including preparing for potential legal battles in key states. It has been suggested that Spies was doubtful of Trump’s assertions regarding the 2020 election.
In response to Spies’s resignation, Democratic National Committee spokesman Alex Floyd criticized the move as a result of Trump purging dissenting voices within the RNC. Floyd accused Trump of promoting unfounded conspiracy theories and attempting to impose his extreme agenda on the Republican Party. However, the RNC has not issued a statement in response to these claims.
