School District spends COVID funds on youth Pride featuring drag queen performance

A New Hampshire school district has sparked outrage by using COVID-19 relief funds to finance a youth Pride event featuring a drag queen performance. According to documents acquired by the Daily Caller News Foundation, Manchester School District spent $4,000 from the city of Manchester’s American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds, which included a Community Event and Activation Grant, to sponsor a June 2 high school pride event. The school reportedly used $500 of the grant to fit the performance of “drag performers” and an additional $500 for “pride decorations and swag.” The event will offer food, music, and a dance party, on top of the drag performance.

A Manchester West High School art teacher applied for the grant, seeking funds to purchase “equipment that is sustainable and durable” for future LGBTQ pride events at the school, according to an email obtained by the DCNF. Taxpayers and senior governmental figures have questioned the use of government funds for such a purpose. Frank Edelblut, the New Hampshire Department of Education Commissioner, questioned the school district’s actions, saying, “Is this really the best use of taxpayer funds?”

This instance of irresponsible and inappropriate spending highlights how too many school districts across the country are pushing the LGBTQ+ agenda into the classroom and beyond. Sadly, it is not just taxpayers’ money that is being spent on such activities. In a lawsuit underway in Colorado, two families are alleging that a school district encouraged their daughters to join a “secret” club designed to transition students and conceal the club’s activities from parents. Similarly, some private schools in Massachusetts offer over 90 clubs for their students, including a “trans” and “queer people of color” affinity group.

While the school district tried to defend its actions, stating that it had been hosting pride events since 2018 as part of their “community-developed strategic plan,” it is evident that government funds should not be used in this manner. Families should be able to count on their tax dollars being used to provide the very best education to their children, not frivolous and inappropriate activities and entertainment. It is time for the American people to say enough is enough of the LGBTQ+ agenda being pushed on our children in every way possible.
