A group of Senate Republicans, including Sen. J.D. Vance (R-OH), has made a promise to stop the quick approval of President Joe Biden’s choices for judges. They are doing this in response to what they see as the Biden administration’s unfair treatment of former President Donald Trump. They believe that some of the nominees have supported the persecution of Trump and are not respectful of his rights.
The senators are not planning to criticize any nominee individually. However, if their rights are tested in the Senate, they are ready to make a strong case against the nominees using all the tools available.
The senators are making this pledge until Election Day, when the American people can reject efforts to resolve political disagreements through the legal system.
We need to fight back against the weaponization of government against political opposition. I’m proud to stand with a number of my Republican senate colleagues and do just that. pic.twitter.com/ZJBv6ZlOQk

This promise affects many nominees, such as former Florida Gov. Charlie Crist, Rep. Barbara Lee (D-CA), and Surgeon General Vivek Murphy. The senators are also against any increase to nonsecurity-related funding, any appropriations bill that funds partisan legal battles, and quick consideration and approval of Democratic laws or powers that do not directly deal with the safety of Americans.
Sen. Vance shared his support for the group’s efforts by saying they must fight back against the government using its power against political opposition.
