California Senator Laphonza Butler has criticized 2024 presidential hopeful Nikki Haley, accusing her of resorting to "dog whistle" scare tactics against Vice President Kamala Harris. Speaking on Inside with Jen Psaki, Senator Butler condemned Haley's campaign strategy, which suggests that voting for Joe Biden equates to supporting Harris.
Butler denounced Haley's approach as fostering divisive politics and argued that the American electorate historically supports experienced, qualified candidates who prioritize the nation's best interests. She lauded Vice President Harris for shattering barriers as a black woman in Congress and emphasized Harris's proven track record of public service.

The senator, herself the third black woman to serve in the Senate, rebuked Haley's attempts to misrepresent Harris, asserting that Americans recognize Harris as a capable U.S. senator with a commendable record. Butler urged Haley to articulate her own vision for the country beyond undermining Harris's credentials.
Haley's campaign declined to comment when approached by the Washington Examiner for a response.
In the context of the 2024 presidential race, Haley and former President Donald Trump are the remaining Republican candidates. Trump has garnered endorsements from prominent GOP figures like Governor Ron DeSantis, Vivek Ramaswamy, and Senator Tim Scott, solidifying his frontrunner status. Haley, on the other hand, trails behind after setbacks in Iowa and Nevada caucuses, as well as the New Hampshire primary.
