Get ready folks, because it looks like the government might be shutting down once again! That’s right, Congress has until September 30 to pass a spending measure so that the lights stay on in the Capitol Building, but it seems like Speaker Kevin McCarthy is playing a game of procrastination. He’s not even planning to present a shutdown plan until tomorrow! Can you believe it?
And if that wasn’t bad enough, McCarthy can’t even count on the support of those pesky Democrats. It seems like there’s no incentive for them to help the Republicans right now. So, with all these roadblocks in the way, it’s no wonder that Goldman Sachs is predicting a 90 percent chance of a shutdown. I mean, why even bother with that other 10 percent? It might as well be 100 at this point, folks.
According to Goldman Sachs’ chief economist, Jan Hatzius, if the government does shut down, we could be looking at a shutdown lasting two to three weeks. Yikes! That means furloughs for federal workers and a halt to a bunch of services. But you know who the Democrats are going to blame for all of this? That’s right, the Republicans. They’re already out there aggressively pushing their ‘Republican shutdown’ talking point. Talk about playing dirty!
Now, here’s the interesting part. If the government does end up closing its doors for a little while, guess who the voters are going to blame at first? You got it, the Democrats. That’s why they’re working overtime to frame this as a ‘Republican shutdown.’ They know that they need perfect messaging and they’re doing everything they can to make the GOP look like the bad guys. Classic political maneuvering, if you ask me.
So, buckle up, folks. It looks like we’re in for another round of government shutdown madness. And as always, it’s the American people who suffer the most. You’d think our elected officials would learn their lesson, but hey, who needs a functioning government anyway? It’s not like we have important issues to address or anything.
